Radius-ED leads charge against SMS Fraud
SMSAssure deploys an intrusive and active ‘real-time’ firewall system to protect mobile operators from revenue loss
Singapore, 25 April 2007 — Radius-ED today showcased the benefits of its new product offering, SMSAssure, an international SMS Hub and Firewall solution designed to provide mobile operators a secure messaging environment with real-time detection and prevention capabilities on their mobile network infrastructure at the 5th Telecom Fraud Summit held at the Hilton Singapore.
Developed in line with GSM Association’s (GSMA) directives, SMSAssure includes a user friendly graphic user interface, real-time alerts and statistics for performance analysis and scalable systems for all network size and requirements that are easy to deploy, manage and maintain. With an ‘active filter’ installed at the mobile operator’s SS7 network, SMSAssure provides optimum protection by filtering and blocking unsolicited SMS. SMSAssure enables mobile operators to effectively comply with GSMA’s SMS Fraud Criteria regulations in ensuring fraud controls are in place to minimize risk components in the constantly evolving telecom business.
“SMS remains one of the key revenue generators for mobile operators worldwide and fraudulent third-parties see this as an opportunity to abuse the service by spamming, faking, spoofing, smishing or flooding the operators’ networks for a ‘quick buck’. These activities have caused massive revenue loss and subscriber churn for mobile operators and will continue to have negative financial impact if not dealt with by the operator community”, says Marco de Booij, Business Development Consultant of Radius-ED’s network services team.
“The current non-intrusive anti-fraud methods deployed at the SMSC level to stop SMS Fraud activities cannot prevent third-parties from hacking the SS7 network. SMSAssure was specifically designed to offer real-time firewall security within the SS7 channel itself for optimum security”, says Ben Chong, Radius-ED’s Chief Technology Officer and Country Manager of Malaysia and Singapore.
Among the features of SMSAssure include:
• Tested & proven specifications - Deals with all SMS Fraud instances as defined by the GSMA
• User friendly GUI - Completely web based and browser independent
• Scalable systems for all network size and requirements -Scalable to very high number of TPS
• Statistics and performance analysis - “One Glance” dashboard to assess the SMS fraud situation
• Business rules for complex situations - Flexible fraud rule definition
• Supports high throughput for unexpected surges - Multiple threshold levels
• Real time alerts - Automated alerts via SMS or email
• Protocol analyzer – for analysis of message content
